In 2013, the Whyte T-129 sold out amazingly fast, due to WhatMountainBike magazine giving it their ‘Trail Bike Of The Year Award’ – click here to see the review. They weren’t the only ones to do so, after MBR gave the Whyte T-129 S a 9/10 rating. MBR had this to say:

‘Silent in action, stealth in appearance and blisteringly fast, the T-129 S is much more than a new 29er from Whyte; it’s a turning point in the identity of the brand. It is also the most accomplished suspension bike the company has produced to date.’

Due to the quick-sell-out of the 2013 model, this meant that Whyte decided to produce a near-identical 2014 model.

This 120mm-travel trail bike matches the balance, grip, control and agility that made Whyte’s 146mm-travel bikes legendary, whilst introducing added speed potential via its 29 inch wheels.

Whyte T-129 S 2014

We may have said that the 2014 T-129 S is similar to the 2013 model, but in actual fact, Whyte have improved on the 2013 T-129 S as follows.

  • The 6061 T6 aluminium frame with tapered head tube is lighter weight for 2014.
  • The dropper seatpost (which allows you to adjust your saddle height via its handlebar mounted remote control) has been upgraded to a RockShox Reverb Stealth – generally reckoned to be the best dropper seatpost on the market.
  • The double chainset has been upgraded to ‘trail ratio’ 36/22t SRAM S1400 GXP.
  • The handlebar has grown to a 750mm wide Whyte Custom Alloy Riser Bar.
  • The tyres are a matching set of WTB Bronson 29×2.2 at the front and WTB Nano 29×2.2 at the rear.

At the same time, the 2014 Whyte T-129 S still offers the features that made last year’s model legendary.

  • The short rear end helps keep the rear suspension fully active when required, firm when not, whilst enabling a roomy cockpit without overstretching the wheelbase, so it doesn’t lose Whyte’s trademark nimble steering qualities.
  • Curving the seat tube forward enables Whyte’s geometry trickery plus it helps Whyte achieve their UK-proof aim of offering more tyre/mud clearance than any other brand.
  • Geometry is classic Whyte – 68 degree head angle.
  • The 80mm stem and the wide bars adds to the Whyte T-129′s fast-but-controlled steering vibe.
  • The SRAM X-9 Matchmaker shifters and X-9/X-7 mechs have no problem moving the chain between the SRAM S1400 compact double 36/22 chainrings and up and down the 11-36 cassette.
  • The Rock Shox Reba RL fork with 15mm axle matches the Monarch RL shock at the back and enables the T-129′s 120mm-travel front and rear suspension..
  • On the off-chance you ever want to slow up, Avid Elixir 5s are among the best hydraulic disc brakes made.
