The Cannondale Synapse is an endurance bike that is still stiff enough to feel fast. The 2018 Cannondale Synapse as seen a complete redesign, with an entirely new carbon lay-up dropping the weight by 220g in a size medium and the slimmed down frame that means the disc brakes come weight penalty free
The Synapse first saw the light in 2006 and has been known for its excellent combination of confident handling, relaxed geometry and versatility. Shaving off some of the excess weight hasn’t impacted ride quality. Its design objectives are still centred on compliance, a smooth ride, plus a high level of integration and versatility.
The new 2018 Cannondale Synapse comes with disc brakes across all models. But with the new lightweight frameset, Cannondale describes the reduction in weight as “getting disc brakes for free”.
The drivetrain on this particular model is the Shimano Ultegra R8000 11 speed, apart from the crankset which is a Cannondale Si crankset with FSA compact chainrings 50/34. The disc brakes are Shimano Ultegra R8020 hydro disc brakes, which will give you bags of confidence no matter what the weather conditions
The wheels are Mavic Askium’s and come with Schwalbe’s Lugano 700x28 tyres. The 28’s certain help to give you an extra smooth ride but I would be looking to upgrade the tyres at some point.
The Cannondale Synapse also features a good level of clearance and comes with mounts for mudguards, the mounts are subtle and hidden on the frame. This creates a nice clean look when they are not required Cannondale also say that even with those 28c tyres that come supplied with the bike, it’ll support mudguards, meaning you can retain the comfy, grippy 28c tyres and keep a dry bum!
