There are basically two types of Hybrid bikes first you have the fast commuting style of bike which leans towards a road bike such as the Giant Rapid
or Specialized Sirrus
. For example the Rapid is very similar to the Giant Contend road bike but comes with flat bars rather than the drop road bars, plus it also as contact points for a rack and make an excellent fast commuter.
Another bike similar to the Rapid and Sirrus is the Cannondale Quick, there is also a CX version of the Quick with the added comfort of a front suspension. The Suspension fork will increase the overall weight of the bike but unless you live somewhere very hilly this shouldn’t be an issue.
Then there is the Hybrid bike that comes more from the mountain bike side of things such as the Specialized Crosstrail.
These tend to have fatter knobbly tyres, suspension forks and have the general look and feel of a mountain bike. Again they will generally have fixing mounts for mudguards and racks. The more relaxed riding position and more stable shape means that you can take on almost anything, whether it is forest trail riding with the family at the weekend or a quick commute to around town.
If you looking for a bike that is comfortable, stable and ready to ride on or off road a hybrid bike could be the way to go, perfect for those who want a little of everything.
